About Sports Games
Sports games often mimic real life games such as baseball, basketball or football and include the very same elements of competitiveness and rivalry. Many sports games emphasize the creation and performance of a team, including statistics and player details, while others promote strategy and organization as well as actually playing the sport.
Unlike arcade or action games, sports games emphasize the same skills that the actual sport employs, such as accuracy, speed and strength. Many sports games based on franchises (such as the Madden line) are updated each year to reflect trends and changes within the game itself. Even as far back as the late 1970s, home consoles would create a wide variety of sports games including basketball, baseball, hockey, football and soccer.
It wasn't until the late 1990s mid-2000s that extreme sporting games, such as skateboarding and snowboarding exploded onto the scene. Now with motion control advances such as the Wii remote, Sony Playstation Move and Microsoft Xbox Kinect, many sports games are bringing the players even closer to the action by having them mimic the actual moves of the game, such as swinging a racket, bat or club. The evolution of sports games can only improve from here!
